Ford Fiesta ST Online

Welcome to the Sporty Fiesta section.

Here we will show where the sporty Fiesta started, right through to the models before the ST brand was launched.

It's crazy to think how far the sporty Fiesta has come, and how things we take for granted on a vehicle nowadays, were an option to make a Fiesta more sporty all them years ago.

Mark 1

The Mark 1 was first introduced in 1976 and ran a small array of models in the early years. A sport model was classed as having equipment we take for granted in todays vehicles. A facelift came in 1981 which included more updated and refined features including visually larger bumpers.

The popularity and competition grew to spawn more sporty models and so the SuperSport was born. It paved the way for the XR2 to really capture the market of the sporty hatchback. Facing stiff competition, the XR2 held it's own, but time was moving quickly and the Mark 1 was phased out in 1983 to make way for the updated models.

Mark 2

The Mark 2 arrived as an update, in 1983. It brought a new more rounded shape with an updated interior. A year passed before a sporty model was released and the XR2 was in showrooms in 1984.

There were a few sporty models during the Mark 2 production cycle, which ended in 1988. Most of which got a slight update in 1986, XR2 included.

Mark 3

The Mark 3 came along in 1988 and with it started another Sporty Fiesta chapter. The Mark 3 boasted some impressive sporty titles including the likes of the RS models.

With an ever-changing market and world, the Mark 3 was the golden age of the Sporty Fiesta, as no Fiesta has worn an RS badge since. The 90's recession hit hard and the Sporty Ford's across the entire range suffered, which led to the end of the Mark 3 golden chapter.

Mark 4

The Mark 4 was launched in 1995 and was a strange time in the Fiesta's life. It featured two mildly badged models which were the only taste of sport for it's 4 year production cycle.

With the recovery of the recession gradually improving, the Mark 4 sold, to keep the name going, to those who wanted and needed economic motoring.

Mark 5

The Mark 5 picked up where the Mark 3 left off. Arriving in 1999, it immediately struck gold with the only sporty model in the range. With Ford keeping things simple to maximise profit following the financial crisis, it worked.

The Zetec-s looked the part and sold in great numbers due to it's popularity. The bodyshell still echoed that used by the Mark 3 and it had a short life chapter, to be updated yet again.

Mark 6

The Mark 6 was introduced in 2002 as a brand new shape, as Ford also updated many other models in the range at this time.

Sporty models were not existent until the ST arrived alongside the Zetec-s in 2004. With a slight revision in 2006 and numerous special editions to maximise profits, the Mark 6 was very popular.

The ST did arrive in 2004, and these special editions arrived after, but it's worth noting their place within the sporty Fiesta history.

The Mark 6 ended production in 2008 with the Mark 7 chapter starting with the Zetec-s.

The Mark 7 got a facelift in 2012, and the ST arrived in 2013.

The Mark 8 chapter started in 2017 with a new sporty chapter, and the ST followed in 2018.
